So Much Fun

Another long but awesome day.  Turns out that the little car that could actually couldn't fit our car seats, so we made a long trip after dinner to exchange them for seats that will safely fit babies and parents.  We are finally home after another 14+ hour day, and I just keep thinking about how the kids are getting to be so much fun now.  It seems like every day they can do something new or a little better than the day before.  Some of these accomplishments are measured by medical benchmarks, like Lucas coming off his cannula (since yesterday afternoon!) and Olivia going down to 1 liter flow on her cannula.  Others are not specifically measured but equally apparent to Mom and Dad, such as Lucas developing a strong enough suck to hold his pacifier in his mouth and starting to explore his hands, and Olivia beginning to nurse and figuring out how to latch on to Mom.

In addition to the great breathing progress, both kids continue to grow.  Lucas is very close to tipping the scales at 4 lbs, and Olivia is just under 3 1/2 lbs.  Their faces continue to fill out, and we're sure their little arms and legs will be next to get round and pudgy :)  Lucas is really starting to get the hang of p.o. feeding, with a great nursing and bottle session today.  Olivia has been ok'd to practice at the breast twice a day, and will get her first evaluation by the speech therapist on Monday.  We're so proud of both of them.  The doctors warn that with all this good progress there will be some days when the kids just need to rest and don't seem to be going forward, but we are in a really good place and departure home is starting to finally seem like a reality.

Because of the late night, I will end here with some photos of the cuties, both after their evening meal:

  2. I was thinking of the babies yesterday on their 8-week birthday. Sounds like they celebrated that milestone with another day of steady progress - go, babies, go!

  3. Wait, so who's who? Based on the cannula, I'm guessing Olivia at top and Lucas on bottom. Now that you can fully see both beautiful faces, what do you think - do they look alike? And what have they inherited from each of you?

  4. Yes, Olivia on top; Lucas on bottom. They definitely do look alike, while at the same time are distinctly individual. They clearly have inherited their mother's good looks. :)
