Just Your Average 24 hours

It is almost as if we have settled into a routine.  Today was another normal day, which is exactly how we would like them.  After sleeping in for the first time a few 24 hours, we made it to the hospital before 11 am mealtime.  As we have done for the past several days, we took temperatures and changed diapers and then spent a good couple hours holding Lucas and Olivia.  Our schedule has grown so predictable, we seem to have developed days/turns with the kids.  Today was Dad's day to do "cares" for Lucas and then hold Olivia.  Mom did vice versa.  It is really wonderful to feel a schedule settling into place, especially because it means the little ones are continuing to be good, boring patients.

Lucas and Olivia continued their steady progress.  Olivia had her feeds increased to 12 mL q 3.  She is now almost 2/3 of the way toward full feeds.  She is also doing well on her cpap level 5.  She has a few more challenges with level 5 than her brother, but they are subtle and only part of the learning curve.

Most exciting was in her transfer from incubator to Dad's chest, her cpap came undone and her breathing tube somehow came out.  Olivia's fabulous nurse du jour was quite impressive, battling back and forth with the cpap and getting a new feeding tube ready.  It took several minutes to get everything re-situated, but Olivia just sat happily on Dad's chest as everything was fixed up.  I felt like I was being tickled.  I sat there with my daughter, giggling as all her tubes were reconnected.  Just another day in paradise.

Lucas is steady as he goes.  No breathing episodes.  Happy with his feeds.  Staying on his cpap for the foreseeable future.  That a way, son.

We are grateful for average days.  They are sometimes the hardest to fully appreciate.
